Year 6 Oak and Elm

Welcome to Year 6 Oak and Elm Classes!

The Class Teachers for Oak Class are Mrs Tracy Wicks (Monday, Thursday and Friday) and Mrs Sara Kempe (Tuesday and Wednesday).  They are supported by Miss Victoria Johnson, Mrs Carol Henderson and Mrs Belinda Duncan.  The Class Teachers for Elm Class are Mrs Rebecca Freeman (Monday, Thursday and Friday) with Mrs Laura Lewis (Tuesday and Wednesday).  They are supported by Mrs Sally Goodman, Mrs Caroline Smith and Mr Will Allen.

The Year 6 team welcomes you to possibly the most action-packed year in your Lady Boswell’s life!  The year kicks off with a real focus on challenge as we set ourselves targets and embrace the additional responsibilities that come with Year 6.

During the first two terms, we explore North America with a geographical focus, developing our locational knowledge and contrasting human and physical aspects of the varying landscape. We also develop our map reading skills.

In Term two, around the time of Remembrance, we consider some of the key historical elements of WW1 and the importance of remembering those involved. The children also enjoy leading our whole-school Remembrance service.

Terms three and four bring our cross-curricular history topic of WW2. We explore what life was like for civilians, especially children and those on the home front. We particularly enjoy a trip to the Museum of Kent Life which helps bring the children's historical learning to life.

Terms five and six are even busier; with the national SATs looming soon after we return to school after Easter, we start with a whirlwind revision of the amazing amount we have learned during our seven years at Lady Boswell's before embarking on our final history topic of Crime and Punishment through the ages. No sooner is this done than we prepare for our exciting summer-term residential at the Kingswood activity centre in Norfolk.  The fun doesn’t end there!  We are extremely busy in term 6 with rehearsals for our amazing Year 6 summer production.  It is the climax to our year.  Term 6 also sees us complete various transition projects and visits to our chosen secondary schools.   You can see why there are always so many happy memories of Year 6 to share at our Leavers’ Service in July!
