Welcome to Year 3
Copper Beech and Silver Birch!
The Class Teacher for Copper Beech is Miss Lucy Noone with Teaching Assistants Mrs Juliette Bucknall and Miss Helene Leys. The Class Teacher for Silver Birch is Mrs Fiona Hammond and Teaching Assistant Mrs Lindy Charman.
During the school year, the cross-curricular topics covered are the 'Stone, Bronze & Iron Age', the 'Extraordinary Egyptians', Mountains and 'Our Locality- Sevenoaks.' Literacy, Art, History, Geography and DT are linked to our topic work where appropriate. All topics have a global dimension to develop children’s awareness of world issues and encourage learning for life.
Throughout the year, the science curriculum covers: plants, forces and magnets, rocks, fossils and soils, light and animals, including humans. These areas are also linked to the current topic where possible.
Learning outside the classroom provides wonderful experiences and opportunities for the children to participate in their topic learning. Trips and activity days are organised to link with the topic being studied. This year a trip to Butser Farm will kick off our work on the Stone, Bronze & Iron Age. Later in the school year an in-school Egyptian Day will give the children an opportunity to dress like Egyptians, make and and eat Egyptian food and learn Egyptian dancing.
