The Year 6 team welcomes you to possibly the most action-packed year in your Lady Boswell’s life! The year kicks off with a real focus on challenge as we set ourselves targets and embrace the additional responsibilities that come with Year 6.
During the first two terms, we learn about WW2; we explore what life was like for civilians, especially children and those on the home front. We particularly enjoy a trip to the Museum of Kent Life which helps bring the children's historical learning to life. In Term two, around the time of Remembrance, we also consider the importance of remembering those involved in the world wars and other conflicts. The children enjoy leading our whole-school Remembrance service.
In Terms 3 and 4, we explore North America with a geographical focus, developing our locational knowledge and contrasting human and physical aspects of the varying landscape. We also develop our practical map reading skills.
Terms five and six are even busier; with the national SATs looming soon after we return to school after Easter, we start with a whirlwind revision of the amazing amount we have learned during our seven years at Lady Boswell's before embarking on our final history topic of Black and British. No sooner is this done than we prepare for our exciting summer-term residential at the Manor Adventure centre in Norfolk. The fun doesn’t end there! We are extremely busy in term 6 with rehearsals for our amazing Year 6 summer production. It is the climax to our year. Term 6 also sees us complete various transition projects and visits to our chosen secondary schools. You can see why there are always so many happy memories of Year 6 to share at our Leavers’ Service in July!
