Year 5 Cedar and Hawthorn

Welcome to Year 5!

Year 5 classes are Cedar and Hawthorn.  The Class Teachers for Cedar are Mr Will Allen (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) and Mrs Tracy Wicks (Wednesday) assisted by Teaching Assistant Miss Francesca Czarnowski.  The Class Teachers for Hawthorn Class are Mrs Tracy Wicks (Monday) and Mrs Laura Lewis (Tuesday to Friday). They are assisted by Teaching Assistants Ms Leyla Lavelle and Mrs Carol Henderson.

During the school year, the topics covered are The Ancient Maya, South America, Rainforests, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings and Water. English and foundation subjects are linked to topics where appropriate. The science taught includes Earth and space, properties and changes of materials, living things and their habitats, animals including humans, and forces.

In September, the children take part in a team-building day at a local outdoor adventure centre. This allows the children to develop their team-building skills and participate in problem-solving activities and outdoor challenges. This day gives the children an insight into what lies ahead when they go on their school journey to Norfolk in year 6.

The children start the year immersing themselves in an Ancient Maya experience day, followed later in the term with a chocolate-making day.  Later in the year, they will participate in a practical and inspiring hands-on history day to introduce the Viking topic.

All topics are taught with a focus on the global dimension, encouraging the children’s awareness and critical thinking skills and helping to develop a life-long love of learning.

Year 5 Targets

Below you will find links to our Writing, Reading and Maths targets for Year 5.  These are the objectives that our pupils work to achieve each year in these subject areas. These target objectives are used both at School, and at home, to ensure every pupil is continually challenged, and are often referred to at parent consultation meetings when discussing pupil's progress and attainment.
