The class teachers for Copper Beech are Mrs Harman (2 days) and Mrs Boshoff (3 days) with TAs Mrs Clarke and Mrs Charman-Ord. The class teachers for Silver Birch are Mrs Johnson and Mrs Thrower with TA Mrs Wild.
During the school year, the cross-curricular topics covered are Marvellous Maps, Stone Age Surprise and Incredible Egyptians. Literacy, Art, History, Geography and DT are linked to our topic work where appropriate. All topics have a global dimension to develop children’s awareness of world issues and encourage learning for life.
Throughout the year, the science curriculum covers green plants, forces and magnets, rocks and soil and light and sound, and these areas are also linked to the current topic where possible.
Learning outside the classroom provides wonderful experiences and opportunities for the children to participate in their topic learning. Trips and activity days are organised to link with the topic being studied. This year a trip to Butser Farm and an in-school workshop will kick off our work on the Stone Age. Later in the school year an in-school Egyptian Day will give the children an opportunity to dress like Egyptians, make and and eat Egyptian food and learn Egyptian dancing.
