Welcome to Year 6 Oak!
Possibly the most action-packed year in your Lady Boswell’s life, Year 6 kicks off with a real focus on challenge as we set ourselves targets and embrace the additional responsibilities that come with Year 6, and also face the 11 plus entrance exams. During the first two terms with class teacher Mrs Wicks and Teaching Assistants Mrs Nash and Mrs Jude, we swing back in time to experience what life was like in the two World Wars. This term we also set up our links with our partner school in France, writing to our pen pals for the first time.
As we move into terms three and four our focus switches to North America, where we learn about the human and physical geography of contrasting areas in this vast continent. We also consider the impact of the arrival of Europeans on the native American peoples, and the subsequent 'Trail of Tears'. We welcome our French pen pals into school for the day in March, and look forward to our return visit in May. Our RE studies are enhanced by a trip to the Sikh gurdwara in Gravesend.
Terms five and six are even busier. With the national SATs looming soon after we return to school after Easter, we start with a whirlwind revision of the amazing amount we have learned during our 7 years at Lady Boswell's. No sooner is this done than we start preparing for our exciting summer-term residential at the Kingswood activity centre in Norfolk. The fun doesn’t end there; we are extremely busy this term with rehearsals for our amazing Year 6-led summer production - the climax to our year. This term also sees us participate in local events such as the Kent Schools Rochester Festival and complete transition projects and visits to our chosen secondary schools!
You can see why there are always so many happy memories of Year 6 to share at our Leavers’ Service in July!
