The Year 5 Teaching Assistant is Mrs Sally Goodman who works in class all week. Other supporting adults are Miss Leys and Mrs Francis.
During the school year, the cross-curricular topics covered are the Rainforest, Chocolate, Water, Rivers and the Ancient Greeks. Literacy is linked into the topic work and Maths where appropriate. The science taught includes animal and plant adaptation and interdependence, life cycle and reproduction of plants and mammals, properties and changes of materials, earth and space and forces.
Year 5 visit Wide Horizons for an overnight residential stay at the beginning of the first term. This allows the children to develop their team building skills and outdoor challenges. It is also a good experience to prepare for their school journey to Norfolk in year 6.
All topics are taught with a focus on the global dimension, developing the children’s awareness and critical thinking skills, allowing their own curiosity to take their learning further.
