Welcome to Year 4 Sycamore!
Welcome to Year 4!
The class teacher of Year 4 Sycamore Class is Mr Hammond supported by teaching assistants Mrs Goodman, Miss Batley, Miss Fisher and Mrs Rands-Webb.
In the Autumn term the main topic is the Romans, Anglo Saxons and Vikings. Art links in to this and we design mosaics. We write stories with historical settings, again linking to the main history topic, along with studying poetry, writing instructions, persuasive writing and play writing. ICT is used for research, note making and producing a Wiki. We will then go on to look at editing Web pages.
In Maths we study calculations based on all four number operations, fractions, decimals, 2D & 3D shapes and coordinates. In science we study sound and human nutrition. In DT we will make Christmas cards with moving parts.
P.E. includes invasion games and swimming. We will be going out for PE if the weather is damp or cold and the field may be muddy, a change of socks is needed. PE kit may become muddy in which case I will instruct the children to take it home to be washed, please ensure that it is bought back into school as promptly as possible.
In music we will be learning to play the violin. Violin lessons will be on Monday afternoon and it is essential that everyone remembers to bring their violin into school on Monday and take it home at the end of the day so they can practice at home during the week. In R.E. we study the Bible, Hinduism and Christmas.
Homework will be set on Monday and needs to be handed in by Thursday at the latest, it will consist of spellings, some sentences to compose which include some of the spellings used in context, one page from the mental arithmetic book and some times table facts to learn. There will be spelling and tables tests on Friday.
